Loosely based on Alice in Wonderland, with a touch of The Wizard of Oz, this amazing one-act adventure of young Alicia takes her on a journey from a Mexican curio shop to an understanding of her national heritage.
¡Bocón! tells the story of 12-year-old Miguel who flees a repressive military regime in Central America for Los Angeles. A natural storyteller and irrepressible "big mouth" or bocón, Miguel loses his voice when his parents are taken and begins a metaphorical journey north to the City of Angels. Along the way, he finds his voice and the courage to cross the border to a new life. Miguel's story is relevant to immigrant children from all parts of the world, and to any child who is learning the many meanings of finding one's own "voice."
The Highest Heaven is intended for families and young audiences. The play's themes explore the Depression, butterflies, hobos, Mexico, growing up and conservation. The Highest Heaven premiered with Childsplay Inc., Arizona, and was subsequently presented at the Mark Taper Forum's P.L.A.Y.
This wildly funny play tells the story of Maria, a young, precocious Latina who tells her parents she wants to go to college. After they order her to get married instead, Maria has a nightmare in which pieces of herself wrestle with each other.
A young boy who has recently lost his parents in the 9/11 tragedy is forced to move to L.A. to live with his grandmother. As they struggle to navigate their feelings after this loss, they realize that their journey as a family is just beginning.
This contemporary Latin-American Cinderella musical delightfully turns the classic fairy tale on its head, telling the story from both Cinderella and the "stepsister's" perspective. Cinderella, a newcomer from Puerto Rico, comes to visit her "stepsister," Rosa, in the United States. The catch … Cinderella only speaks Spanish and Rosa only speaks English. Will these two girls be able to reach an understanding? With a fairy godfather and other delightful twists to the original story, Cinderella: A Salsa Fairy Tale crosses language and gender barriers, weaving a subtle lesson on empathy, sportsmanship and respect.
