Synopsis

Like Jon Jory's University, these are mini-plays that connect and create a fascinating full evening of theatre. These plays are as real, as hard-hitting, as poignant and as funny as those in University, but in this case they're concerned with lives of people just a little younger. The title of this work is entirely appropriate. The play begins with Love in ways that are at times touching and at other times wryly humorous. Then the play proceeds to Death as some young people have to cope with the staggering news of a suicide. And, of course, it ends with The Prom. Out of these three related themes comes a fulfilling sense of beginning to understand, appreciate and enjoy these people and this time of life. These mini-plays are also a good vehicle to be used in the classroom, or in lieu of an exam in a drama class. They will challenge directors and actors without overwhelming them. These pieces can also be read in the classroom by non-actors as a stimulus for discussion.

"Well writtenÑrealistic, humor is appropriate to the context and the drama has a level consistent with what the characters are experiencing. Teenage actors access the meaning readily and clearly. The pieces work well individually as well as as a whole."
Review by Mary Margaret Coffield, Rock Bridge High School, Columbia, Mo.
"Lots of great roles appropriate for a high-school play. I had lots of first-time actors that had a positive experience."
Review by Pete Nett, Corning High School, Corning, Iowa
"Audiences, whether 12 or 60, enjoy these scenes since all of them provide funny, sometimes sad or poignant, moments of what teenagers experience. This piece survives the rapid changes in teen culture."
Review by Jeanne Jackson, Ashdown High School, Ashdown, Ark.
"Love, Death and the Prom is one of the most simple plays I've been involved withÑand I've been involved in more than 25 plays over ten years! The script is simple, but heartwarming and very familiar to, not only high schoolers but everyone. A great show and easy to produce. Five stars!!"
Review by Allen Lollis, Clinton High School, Clinton, S.C.
