You’ve heard of Peter Pan. You might even think you know the story—about a boy who can fly, about Neverland and pirates and Lost Boys and Tinker Bell. But you don’t know the real story because the man who wrote it all down wasn’t actually there. Wendy Moira Angela Darling, who was there, is about to fix that. She’ll show you what really happened to Peter’s shadow and how Peter learned to fly. She’ll teach you about Tinker Bell (who is meaner than you thought), and she’ll introduce you to a key character you’ve never heard of. To do this, Wendy is staging a play called The Neverland Project. Get ready to fly, because the best way to explain Neverland is to take you there.
This was an extraordinary show! Definitely a favorite for our program as well as our audiences. All ages found delight and meaning. It was so interesting to hear the various takeaways from our community.
The flight itself and then the awe upon removing the blindfolds was so much fun! We used disposable green sleep masks which we bought in bulk off Amazon. We used small but very powerful turbo handheld fans and misting sprayers for the flight. Our audiences were thrilled! For the window, I had two girls hold a curtain rod with drapes which could be “opened” or “closed” as necessary. It was easy and worked so well. For the flight from the nursery, I had the Londoners parade by holding various London landmark “shadows” - wooden cutouts painted black - Big Ben, Tower Bridge, the moon, a pram, etc. that I purchased on Etsy . Our choreographer created a beautiful but simple montage of the children and Peter going through the window and flying over London.

Everyone loved this show! The kids loved that they knew the source material (Peter Pan, of course), but they enjoyed getting to know the story in a new way. Our audience agreed and found themselves laughing, crying, and being surprised in ways they never would have expected! This is a great ensemble piece; we performed it with about 26 high schoolers on cast. The only thing that I found tricky was how quickly the script sometimes switched locations.
