Synopsis

It is 1947 at Yankee Stadium in New York where the New York Yankees are playing the Brooklyn Dodgers and the newest member of the Dodgers team is the first African American to play major league baseball: Jackie Robinson. In the course of the play, Jackie bats, gets on base and steals bases with the goal of stealing home. While playing, Jackie fields questions from the press and recalls flashbacks from his life up until then: his struggles with poverty and racism growing up, serving in the U.S. Army and playing all types of sports. In the game he is attempting to steal home, but in his life he is attempting to steal the hearts of the fans, pave the way for people of color to play America’s pastime and, by extension, participate freely and equally in all aspects of American life. His goal is to make it so all people, no matter who they are, where they came from, how they worship or what they look like, can reach for their dreams—in short, to make America a greater home for us all.
