Synopsis

It is 1940, and newspaper reporter Margo Mason is sent down to Cajun country to track down the story of a Rougarou, a Cajun werewolf, that is murdering locals. Arriving at the Louisiana bayou, she pursues the story, questioning the staff and customers of the local café, where she soon discovers that her ex-boyfriend has followed her and intends to steal her scoop. On top of that, Jimmy Salton, a long-standing rival of Margo’s and the leader of a team of archaeological adventurers, uncovers the skeleton of a supposed Rougarou nearby. While Jimmy and his colleague, Meredith, don’t believe in werewolves, his assistant, Bart, does—and it scares him. Then, to make matters worse, a waitress at the café and a sheriff’s deputy are found gruesomely murdered together! Henri, the simple-minded son of the swamp witch Hattie Laveau, was caught standing over them, but he runs away. Finally, the sheriff organizes a posse to hunt Henri down, culminating in an exciting and heartbreaking battle with the Rougarou. Werewolf of the Bayou is a staged radio drama with mystery, suspense, terror and rapid-fire comedy.

Some of the advantages to producing radio plays:

One Simple Set—A radio station—made up mostly of drapes, a control booth (if desired), mikes, and sound effects equipment.

Less Wardrobe—no changes of wardrobe are necessary.

Less Staging—actors simply stand at mikes most of the time.

Less Rehearsal—actors don't memorize lines—they just read them.

Fewer Cast Members—one actor plays many parts.

No Props—only scripts.
