Synopsis

Who was Jack the Ripper? For three months in 1888, death stalked the gloomy alleyways of a London slum. Seven women were brutally murdered; the bodies were horribly mutilated. The murderer was never caught or identified. The play offers theories. It takes place in the home of Dr. Thaddeus Sargeant. Each person who comes to visit him is a suspect. "In traditional mysteries," Tim Kelly said, "the audience is supposed to guess who. In this play to get the who, you have to establish the why." Carefully constructing his plot, Kelly throws suspicion on each character, with the final revelation coming as a surprise.

Customer Reviews

"This show was very fun to produce and students had a blast. Since it was just one set, we could focus on character development and costumes. Lots of dialogue and not as much action, but our audience loved guessing who the murderer was! We got many compliments."
Review by Jamie Scherer, Dayton High School, Yerington, Nev.
"We did a virtual production of this play. We performed it with the optional prologue. The prologue was filmed outside in a COVID safe, distanced area. It was a great segue into the play. If you are doing the play virtually, be true to the piece with authentic 1880s backgrounds as well as costumed appropriately. Our audience response was overwhelming & very rewarding!"
Review by Kenneth Northam, Virtual Studio Players, Garfield, N.J.
