Synopsis

Dove is a happy-go-lucky middle-aged guy who loves nothing more than surfing and getting stoned in his family's idyllic Laguna Beach bungalow. Now in his 50s, his young wife and daughter have moved out, and he's broke. So he calls on his best friends from high school to see if they can pool their resources and buy the bungalow. His best friend, the solid and steady Will, has flown out from Ohio with Marsha, his sweet, bubbly wife of 30 years. The manic, acerbic Lizzy has come from Pasadena, and Archy, a fabulous and funny Broadway publicist, has flown out from New York. The old friends are ecstatic to be back in the house that holds so many essential memories from their teenage years—not to mention, it's now a valuable piece of real estate. Things get off to a bumpy start with the surprise appearance of the still-sexy Eva Martinez, who was the object of desire in high school and still knows how to keep the boys salivating. Champagne and margaritas flow, igniting emotional fireworks. The reunion is funny, sentimental and fraught with long-simmering resentments and hidden agendas. Old jealousies and passions come to the surface, as does Will's long-suppressed passion for Buffalo Bill Cody. Excessively drunk, Lizzy still nurses a decades-old wound from her unrequited love for Will—and Dove and Archy for that matter. Eva amps up the jealousy, but Lizzy keeps her sharp barbs focused on the unsinkable Marsha. Archy keeps things rolling with his witty comments, salacious gossip and a few secrets of his own. The next morning, they all nurse various degrees of hangover as they try to come to terms with their past, their present and their future.
