David S. Craig is an award-winning and internationally produced dramatist and theatre artist. He has written more than 30 plays, including The Neverending Story, which was recently produced at the Stratford Festival and the National Arts Centre; Danny, King of the Basement, produced by the acclaimed Roseneath Theatre; BOMBERS: Reaping the Whirlwind, premiered by 4th Line Theatre; and the hit comedy Having Hope at Home, which premiered at the Blyth Festival and has enjoyed more than 20 professional productions across Canada, the United States and Europe. Craig was commissioned by CBC Radio to turn Booster McCrane, P.M., a political satire piece, into a long-running radio series (51 episodes) and went on to create The Diamond Lane, also broadcast on CBC radio (50 episodes). Other significant plays include Smokescreen, Tough Case, The Fan (adapted from Goldoni), Athabasca (with Richard Greenblatt) and the one-man show Napalm the Magnificent. Plays in development include Jacob Two-Two and the Hooded Fan (with Anika and Britta Johnson) for the Stratford Festival and Frenchy’s: The Thrift Store Musical (with John Roby). His work has won the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Production three times, the Chalmers New Play Award three times, the Rideau Award, the Writer’s Guild Prize for Radio Drama and a Harold. He is the first Canadian to be nominated for the German Children’s Theatre Prize, and, in 2014, he was honored with the Barbara Hamilton Award for Artistic Excellence by the city of Toronto. Craig is a past president of the Playwrights Guild of Canada.
