Synopsis
The play is set simply in the one-room barracks of a Siberian concentration camp where a bare light bulb hangs and 10 men strive to maintain life and sanity in the face of incredible hardship. This one day in the life of a Soviet prison camp ends with Ivan achieving a small but cherished victory of the human spirit over crushing adversity—a trifling victory but one of such importance to the men involved that to Ivan this is..."almost a happy day!"
