Martha King De Silva’s plays for children and adults have been produced at a variety of venues across the country including the Samuel French Off-Off Broadway Short Play Festival (New York City), Lime Kiln Theater (Lexington, Va.), the National Portrait Gallery (Washington, D.C.), Children’s Theatre of Charlotte (Charlotte, N.C.), Imagination Stage (Bethesda, Md.), Synchronicity Theatre (Atlanta) and The Growing Stage—The Children’s Theatre of New Jersey (Netcong, N.J.). In 2002, her one-woman play, Stretch Marks, was nominated for the Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play. In 2010, Heidi, a musical cowritten with composer and lyricist Joan Cushing, received a Helen Hayes nomination for Outstanding Production, Theatre for Young Audiences. In 2022, De Silva won the Laurie Award at The Growing Stage for Maddie and Eleanor. Her monologues have appeared in The Best Women’s Stage Monologues, 1996 and The Best Men’s Stage Monologues, 1998, published by Smith & Kraus. She has received grants from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the Historical Society of Washington, D.C.
