Kitty Chen

Kitty Chen is an autodidact and the author of four full-lenth plays, two one-act plays and four children's stories. She is a 1992-93 NEA Fellow in Playwriting and has received fellowships from the NY Foundation for the Arts, Edward Albee Foundation, and Blue Mountain Center. Her play Eating Chicken Feet had a first public reading at East-West Players in Los Angeles and subsequent workshops at Westside Theatre, Women's Project and Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey.

Chen was born in Shanghai, China, and raised near Philadelphia. After receiving a BA in math from Brown University, she came to New York City to study at the Martha Graham School. An actor since 1973, she appeared in four early Pan Asian productions. She is a member of The Dramatists Guild, Women's Project Playwrights Lab, Asian Pacific Alliance for Creative Equality, and the three actor's unions.
