John Mabey is a writer and storyteller whose plays have been published
and produced in seven countries and throughout the United States. He lived
internationally for a decade in London and Amsterdam before returning to the U.S.,
and he continues to work with theatre companies around the globe both virtually
and in person. His career as a playwright is connected to his extensive
experience in psychology as a mental health counselor, infusing insights about
behavior, emotion and relationships into each of his plays. Mabey is also a
published author on the topics of sexual identity and spirituality in academic
books and journals. In 2021, 2022 and 2023, he had plays published in Smith
& Kraus’ The Best 10-Minute Plays, The Best Women’s Monologues
and The Best Men’s Monologues. In 2023, Mabey had multiple monologues
published in a volume for gender minority characters as well. When not writing,
he also enjoys teaching and performing improvised comedy and true storytelling
around the world.
