Erik Gernand is a playwright and filmmaker. His plays have been in production and/or developed at theatres including The Barrow Group and T. Schreiber Studio (New York City); Redtwist, American Theatre Company and Chicago Dramatists (Chicago); City Theatre (Miami); Source Festival (Washington, D.C.); and Actors Theatre of Louisville. His short plays have been nominated three times for the Heideman Award, and his full-length play The Beautiful Dark was the New Works Project Winner at T. Schreiber Studio, the winner of the Premiere Stages Play Festival (Union, N.J.) and a finalist for the Woodward/Newman Drama Award. His award-winning short films (writer/director) have screened at more than 100 film festivals around the world including SXSW, Mix Milano Festival (Italy), Palm Springs International Shortfest and Chicago International Film Festival and have been broadcast on IFC, PBS and Logo TV and distributed through Strand Releasing and First Run Features. Gernand has taught comedy writing at The Second City Training Center in Chicago and is a lecturer in Radio-TV-Film at Northwestern University.
