Dutton Foster

Dutton Foster has been teaching upper grades in independent schools, as well as directing, designing and building shows in those schools, since 1961. He graduated as an English major with an art minor from Dartmouth College and earned his master's degree at the Bread Loaf School of English. He has taught in Ohio, Colorado and his home city of St. Paul, Minnesota. Retiring soon, Dutton hopes to continue playwriting, set building and painting. He credits the University of Minnesota showboat for sparking his interest in writing old-time melodrama, but his later (unpublished) scripts lean more toward literary parody. Dutton's wife, Caroline, is the daughter of playwright William F. Davidson, whose shows Dramatic Publishing has published over the years, some for more than half a century. The Fosters have two grown children and a grandson.
