Doug Grissom is the head of playwriting at the University of Virginia. His plays have been produced by Theatre Virginia, the Source Theatre in Wahington D.C., Mill Mountain Theatre in Roanoke, Va., Houston's Main Street Theatre and the Venture Theatre in Philadelphia. He has won several awards, including the Virginia Playwriting Award (Tocoi Light), Mill Mountain New Play Competition (Ned & Dan's History Emporium) and the Outstanding New Play Award at the Washington Theatre Festival (Year of Pilgrimage). A piece dealing with teen sexual assault entitled I Never Saw It Coming, commissioned by the Sexual Assault Resource Agency and the Virginia Health Department, is touring high schools in Virginia and has played to over 6,000 students. He is co-founder of Offstage Theatre, an orgainization committed to producing site-specific new work in non-theatrical spaces.
