Synopsis
This play is a beautifully lyrical and faithful adaptation of Oscar Wilde's classic fairy tale. Commissioned by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, this spiritually compelling play tells the story of a migrating swallow who befriends a prince made of stone. The prince, once a selfish human being, has been transformed into a statue bedecked with dazzling jewels and placed high above a squalid city. Together, the bird and the prince both learn the lessons of friendship and sacrifice. A chorus of townspeople help tell this heartfelt morality tale that teaches young audiences the true meaning of charity, social responsibility and self sacrifice.
