Synopsis

Mr. and Mrs. Newman are getting ready for Christmas and hating every minute of it. They're tired and frustrated and bored with fake sentiment. But suddenly, in the midst of a busy commercial department store, we see Christmas through the eyes of the Newman children. the toy stuffed animals come alive and dance with the children. One child asks Santa Claus if she couldn't in some way "give Christmas back to Mommie and Daddy and all the grown people who lost it." Santa Claus, who suddenly seems to be real instead of a commercial fat man in a red suit, says he thinks he knows how it can be done; and when the Newmans return home, they're visited by three strangers who have the odd names of Kaspar, Belthazaar and Melchior. They bring the older Newmans a gift from their children—the gift of a star!
