Synopsis
Vonnegut's story takes a very humorous look at a very serious problem. A serious writer achieves fame and fortune when he allows himself to be drawn into the quick money world of Hollywood. He leaves the wife who stood by him in difficult times. His 14-year-old son becomes his enemy. He marries a screen sex goddess. The time comes when he must try to regain his own integrity. In comic terms, Vonnegut shows us the man's attempt to return to his original values. These are people we can laugh at, but only in the way that we must learn to laugh at ourselves.
