The Kid Nobody Could Handle (manuscript)
The Kid Nobody Could Handle (manuscript)
Drama. Adapted by Christopher Sergel. Based on the story by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.

Cast: 4m., 3w. (extras as desired.) Jim, the "kid nobody could handle," has been treated very badly by life. To this, he has two responses—retreating into blank nothingness or becoming senseless, aggressive, and striking back. A high-school music teacher senses what Jim is going through and fights to salvage this rebellious young man. The teacher tries to interest Jim in the school bank and thus communicate. He wants Jim to understand that he can bring beauty into the world. His interest caught, Jim asks, "How?" "Love yourself," the teacher tells him, "and make your instruments sing about it." Area staging.
