"Just shut the suitcase," she tells Michelle as they pack for the trip to the hospital, "and close the latch. That's what I suspect they'll do…open me up, see that everything is a damn mess, and simply close the latch." But Jessica's will has little to do with who gets the antique china. In unravelling a complex tapestry of lifelong dreams and deceptions, Jessica and Michelle bequeath to each other intimate, and sometimes painful, gifts of love.
