Fairy Tale. Adapted by Lowell Swortzell. Cast: 3w., 1 stage manager, 2 property men, 3 white doves, 1 friendly cow and a procession of acrobats, tight-rope walker, lantern and dragon Bearers.
The curtains open on a bare stage where Wing Woo stands center. As the traditional stage manager of a troupe of Chinese actors, he is dressed in an elaborate gown and strikes a gong, which he carries.
WING WOO: Honorable ladies and gentlemen. (He bows to the left, right and center.) We ask your kind permission to present a play about Pear Blossom, a little girl of old China. I assure you, ladies and gentlemen, that this is a simple play and will not tax your minds.
The Property Men will set your stage. They are supposed to be invisible to your eyes. Please pretend you do not see them.
