Comedy. By Anne Coulter Martens. Cast: 3m., 5w. Going steady wouldn't be such a problem for Johnny if it weren't for two things: Roberta, his steady, is very bossy; and Sue appears a very sweet and attractive new girl! Before he can do anything about it, Johnny's conscience shows up, a normal young man in every respect except that he is apparent only to Johnny, wears a halo, and carries a can of silver polish to keep his halo bright. Roberta breaks her date with Johnny and tells him he must stay home. Everybody tries to take advantage of the opportunity to get him to go out with Sue, since they know that Roberta is really interested in someone else and that Sue is really interested in Johnny. Johnny is perfectly willing, but his conscience won't let him, and Johnny's conscience is harder to deal with than most people's. For awhile, it looks as if the only thing he has accomplished is to make everybody mad at him, but Johnny's conscience does keep his halo straight. A cute, attractive play about and for teenagers. Approximate running time: 20 minutes.
