Comedy. By Celeste Raspanti. Cast: 6m., 6w. This is the story of Noah's Ark—but with a difference. With "Dear Mr. Noah" and Mrs. Noah, nominally in charge on deck, the Ark sails its forty day course while a parcel of animals create their own world below. There is humor, intrigue, suspense, and surprise in the crisis of food shortages, mistaken identity and protests. A mock trial reveals the true villian who learns his lesson—or does he? Though scripted, the play offers the creative director great opportunities for improvisation and creative dramatics in the characterization of the animals. The life below deck includes a story hour where favorite children's stories—How the Bear Lost His Tale, The Lion and the Mouse—are created in rhyme and movement. From the colorful opening with the animals, two by two, entering the Ark to the happy ending as they march through the rainbow into the peacable kingdom of God and man, Dear Mr. Noah offers director and cast a broad field for creative interpretation. Approximate running time: 55 minutes.
