Christmas drama. By John McGreevey. Based on scenes from The Robe, by Lloyd C. Douglas. Cast: 5m., 5w. The great popularity of The Robe has created a demand for a Christmas play also based on Lloyd C. Douglas's internationally famous book. The young Roman Marcellus has brought with him to Cana in Galilee the Robe of the Savior, which he won at dice at the foot of the Cross. He is accompanied by his faithful Greek slave Demetrius who hopes he may be won to the Christian faith. But though Marcellus admires and reveres Jesus, believing him the greatest of men, he cannot accept Him as more than man. He tells the followers of Jesus that in five or ten years His teachings will be completely forgotton. But again the Robe plays its mystical part, as do the actions of a group of Christian children and the followers who actually knew Jesus. A tender and moving climax makes this an ideal play, particularly at Christmas—the birthday of the Savior and the exchange of gifts. To see it or to act in it may well be the highest part of Christmas for the people of your community. Approximate running time: 25 minutes.
