By Jon Jory.

Cast: 5 to 18 m., 5 to 26 w. Here is an extraordinary full evening of theatre that includes an exciting variety. Jon Jory, the artistic director of Actors Theatre of Louisville, has written this brilliant collection of mini-plays which he developed to provide young actors with challenging roles and thematic considerations which would stretch and develop them. Area staging. Approximate Running Time: 90 minutes.

Author's Note:

Most of the mini-plays included in University have been produced in Actors Theatre's New Play Festivals. They were developed to provide young actors with challenging roles and thematic considerations which would stretch and develop them. So many of the parts available to ingenues and juveniles in today's theatre have been either simply fillers, repetitive examples of young love, or sentimental and unrealistic views of the problems confronted during college years. These mini-plays demand the same preparation by the actor that a leading role in a full-length play requires. It is this act of preparation which is the crucial learning experience for the young actor.

If University is produced with a small company, each playing several roles, the versatility demanded should provide an excellent working experience. Set pieces, properties, and costumes have been kept at a minimum so that the emphasis can remain on the actor and actress and the acting task.

Audiences of all ages have responded well to the pieces and together they seem to create an impact stongly communicating this young and complicated world.
