Rafferty has made a detailed study of her films and her career. Emily deftly turns his interview around posing questions to him, displaying her familiarity with his essays, suggesting that his interest in the minutiae of her work borders on fascination. She quietly suggests that he is obsessed with her, perhaps even in a sexual way. This astounds Rafferty and upsets him. It is revealed that Emily has been aiding the FBI in an investigation of threatening communications she has received.
