Spellbound: A Musical Play on Words
Spellbound: A Musical Play on Words
"A+ ... This is an outstanding script. The writing is layered so that adults will enjoy the play as much as (or maybe even more than) the young people. The lyrics and lines are clever. The play solidly teaches some very basic and helpful rules of spelling that anyone will find useful. Moreover, the clever way in which the rules are taught are sure to stick in a participant's head." —Children's Book and Play Review
Book, music and lyrics by Mindy Manley Little.

Cast: 19 actors, flexible (6w. and at least 1m. are needed), doubling possible. Margaret Anne is a young girl who has never won anything in her life and suddenly finds herself as a participant in the upcoming "Miss Spell Contest" representing two spelling bees from an organization known as Rebels Without a Clue. The two spelling bees, 2 Bee and Not 2 Bee, take Margaret Anne to the Land of Spell where she is introduced to the queen and various characters who help her with basic rules of spelling. Margaret Anne not only becomes a better speller, she learns to overcome self doubt even at the risk of being wrong. This is a fast-paced musical comedy done in two acts with 21 original songs, political puns and astute observations on the social oddities of our time, laced with a refreshingly witty slice of American culture. Children's Book and Play Review gave this play an "A+" rating. Minimal set. Approximate Running Time: 80 minutes.

An accompaniment CD is available for use with this show. See Rental Info for details.
