One Day at the Zoo
One Day at the Zoo
By G.M. (Bud) Thompson.

Cast: 3m., 3w. (2 offstage voices.) At first, the Ridgeland's home seems rather drab and unimaginative. But we soon learn that the living space we see isn't so much their home as their cage. Glenn, Monica and their teenage children, Becky and Ryan, are not merely prisoners; they are zoo animals—the featured specimens of the Earth Family Natural Habitat Display and Anthropological Exposition, the star attraction of the Intergalactic Zoo, located some 450 million light-years from Earth. On this particular day, the Ridgelands agree to switch parts for the next show. What starts out as great fun soon turns into a startling revelation and takes a menacing turn when they are caught. This play raises powerful questions about what it means to be a family, being an individual in a family, and the importance of keeping a family together. One int. set. Approximate Running Time: 45 minutes.
