Act Your Age (manuscript)
Act Your Age (manuscript)
The old laugh-maestro never wrote a funnier one—345 laughs clocked at the try-out. You're in for a laugh riot when you produce it!

"I shall be searching the sea, waiting, always waiting for my lover to return and claim my heart."

"From beginning to end, the audience, young and old, enjoyed the play—the third act was given with a low, steady roar of laughter from the audience." —Mrs. Lois Roghar, Sanborn, Iowa.

"it almost acts itself … we all had a great deal of fun from laughing at certain lines even when we had rehearsed them often." —Shirley Owen, Parish Grove Township School, Fowler, Ind.

"It was a joy to work with and a satisfaction to produce. It met with the approval of dramatic critics as well as those who came just to be entertained." —Mary F. McQuitty, Tarkio High School, Tarkio, Mo.

"In this little town where the dramatic standards are quite high, Act Your Age was very successful from the standpoint of both the cast and the audience … So much action and so many surprises is unusual." —R. E. McKiski, Albany High School, Albany, Texas.
Comedy. By William Davidson.

Cast: 3m., 6w. Out of patriotism, Angy and Jerry started writing to a pair of lonesome sailors, and just to make it more interesting, passed themselves off as young ladies instead of kids of 14. And then they hear Gadget and Jim are coming! They get into grown-up clothes and it looks like fun until Aunt Sandra arrives and decides to teach them a lesson.

She dresses up as a brat of a child and makes a holy terror of herself. From then on, it's a whirl of fun and complications. The boys wire Commander Stone for an extension of leave … to get married. Their sentimental old commander is sure to fall for that line! But Sandra happens to be the commander's daughter—and she intercepts the message and re-addresses it to her dad as "Picklepuss" Stone!

In the meantime, Gadget falls for the cook (a lady wrestler in her time off) and wires for another extension. This time it's to bury their wives, who have supposedly drowned! But Commander Stone unexpectedly arrives and the boys are forced to put on a hokum "wake" scene, which is one long cascade of laughs.

In a sparkling finale, the 14-year-olds thankfully return to their own age. Gadget's heart belongs to Cora (and her cooking) , and there really is a romance between Sandra and Jim for the commander to feel sentimental about. Your cast will particularly enjoy the wide variety of roles offered by this comedy, each part with its own wonderful comic moment at the center of the stage.

Notes
Characters: Jerry and Angy, two 14-year-olds; Cora, a mean hand at cooking—and wrestling; Helga, her wrestling partner (their practice bouts play for howls); Aunt Sandra, a grand part—one minute her charming self and the next an impish brat; lumbering Gadget, with a weakness for girls—and food; Jim, quiet and good-looking; blustery Commander Stone, and a Western Union girl.

The manuscript can be photocopied for production. Just let us know how many copies you will be making, and we will issue a letter of permission.
