Musical. Book by Joseph Robinette, music and lyrics by Ronna Lynn Frank, from the stories of Rudyard Kipling. Cast: 8-21 actors of either gender, flexible, plus 2 offstage adult voices (m. and f.) While visiting her aunt, Rudyard Kipling's young daughter, Elsie, receives a recently published copy of her father's newest book. Elsie and a group of newfound friends act out the stories with great flair, enlivened by eminently singable solos and rousing chorus numbers. This musical version of The Just So Stories by the writing team that created the delightful, widely produced musical Stuart Little, features five of Kipling's Just So Stories, including How the Camel Got His Hump, How the Rhinoceros Got His Skin and How the Elephant Got His Trunk, tales which are brought vividly to life in this humorous and disarming musical. Augmenting the charming songs is a fanciful underscoring which musically highlights the incomparable character. The result—a musical delight, bringing to life Kipling's timeless masterpiece. One interior set. Optional accompaniment CD available. Approximate running time: 2 hours, 15 minutes
