Versatile David Rogers has written in all entertainment media from Broadway to Hollywood, from night clubs to grand opera with occasional side trips into novels and short stories. His six Broadway shows include the book and lyrics for the musical, Charlie and Algernon, for which he received a Tony nomination. Other New York productions include, From Here Inside My Head at Playwright's Horizons starring Hal Linden, and the New Faces revue series. His work in London's West End includes a production of Charlie and Algernon starring Michael Crawford, Young at Heart, a Crazy Gang revue, and Killing Jessica, starring Patrick McNee.
Rogers' extensive TV and film credits include the Carol Burnett and Jackie Gleason shows and he has written for such distinguished artists as Beatrice Lillie, Tallulah Bankhead, Bea Arthur and Hermione Gingold. He is the author of over 40 published plays and musicals including adaptations of Flowers for Algernon, Tom Jones and Brave New World, the musicals Cheaper by the Dozen and The Hobbit, and others, and such original works as Here and Now and Soft Soap.
Five published novels by Rogers have been translated and printed worldwide. They include Somewhere There's Music and The Great American Alimony Escape. His libretto for the opera The Hero was commissioned by New York's Lincoln Center and won the prestigious Prix d'Italia.
Having begun his career as a teenage actor, Rogers returned to the stage several years ago appearing on Broadway in Doubles and in the play Broadway directed by George Abbott. He was seen in the national tour of Tommy Tune's Grand Hotel and in leading roles in regional theatres across the country.
