Ted Drachman began his professional theater career in Cambridge, Mass., acting, improvising and writing for the long-running topical review The Proposition. He also performed in children's musicals and on radio and wrote scripts for Profile of a Patriot, a radio feature starring Arthur Kennedy which was aired coast to coast. Drachman co-authored book, music and lyrics for Work & Win!, a Horatio Alger musical produced in New York, and wrote the lyrics for Susan B! and The Amazing Einstein, two young people's musicals commissioned and toured nationally by New York City's Theatreworks/USA, which has also mounted continuing tours of a specially adapted version of Narnia entitled The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The full-length version of Narnia has been staged in hundreds of productions throughout the United States and abroad, most notably as part of the City of London Festival. Drachman has contributed to the movies with Nobody's Perfect and Rich Kids and rewrote the lyrics for an updated production of Oscar Straus' classic operetta, The Chocolate Soldier, a mainstage production at Connecticut's Goodspeed Opera House. His songs have been recorded by Noel Pointer and Carmen Lundy and performed in reviews in New York, Boston and Canada. For the past several years he has served as a preliminary judge for the Kleban Foundation award for lyricists and is presently at work on the lyrics for Glimmerglass, a musical based on James Fenimore Cooper's enduring classic Leatherstocking Tales.
