Michael Bigelow Dixon has co-written 10 plays with Valerie Smith. Those and his own have premiered at Actors Theatre of Louisville, South Coast Repertory, Indiana Repertory Theatre and Atlanta Children's Theatre. He has also been literary manager and associate artistic director at Actors Theatre of Louisville, literary director at the Guthrie Theater and resident director at The Playwrights' Center in Minneapolis. He has edited 35 volumes of plays and criticism (several with Val Smith), been a Fellow at the National Endowment for the Arts and directed numerous world premieres at the Guthrie, Florida Stage, Actors Theatre and both Commonweal Theatre and Illusion Theatre in Minnesota. Dixon taught at North Carolina Central University and is currently an assistant professor at Goucher College in Baltimore. He serves as a consultant to the Hermitage Artists Retreat in Florida and as a board member for Commonweal Theatre Company.
