Carlos Perez has been a writer and actor for nearly 20 years. He holds a master's degree in English from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a B.F.A. in theatre from Avila University. His work has placed or won in a number of playwriting and screenwriting competitions such as the New Century Awards, the Southwest Festival of New Plays (Latino division), the Chesterfield Writer's Film Project, the Cinematalk Screenwriting Competition, the Writer's Digest writing competition (stage play division), the White-Willis Theatre Competition, the International Beverly Hills Film Festival, the Landlocked Film Festival, the Bare Bones Film Festival, the Great Lakes Film Festival, the Paranoia Horror Film Festival, the Great Lakes Independent Film Festival (screenwriting division), and the Gotham Screen Screenplay Competition, just to name a few. Perez was commissioned by Theater for Young Audiences to write an original play for young people, How the Beetle Got Her Colors and Other Tales from Latin America, which toured for five years. As a screenwriter for hire, he's had a number of his screenplays produced. His published plays include Caught Between Two Worlds, a play for young people titled Folktales for Fun, and a collection of short stories titled Tales from a Disturbed Mind. Perez is a member of the professional acting organizations AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) and SAG (Screen Actors Guild). He resides in Independence, Missouri, and spends his time writing and enjoying time with his family.
