Jeanne Averill is an award-winning actress, director and teacher who is co-founder with Ric Averill of the Seem-To-Be Players professional touring company of the Lawrence Arts Center in Lawrence, Kansas. She was both resident actress and the original director of that company during its formative years and was the first director of Robin Hood: The Courtship of Allan A'Dale. Jeanne was named Secondary Teacher of the Year by the American Alliance of Theatre in Education in 2000 for her work with new plays at Lawrence High School's Experimental Theatre Department. As director of that program, she worked with playwrights Max Bush, Sandra Fenichel Asher, Laurie Brooks, Ric Averill and Kevin Willmott. Her commissioned production of T-Money & Wolf was selected for the Kennedy Center's New Visions/New Voices in 1993 and then was performed at the Boston AATE conference. Another play, Resolution, which grew out of the program, was featured at the Minneapolis AATE Conference in 1996. As an actress, Averill has performed on stage and in made-for-television movies and feature films. Her one-woman show, Shame the Devil, directed by Jack Writher, was the featured performance at the Denver 1998 AATE Conference, where she received a standing ovation from her peers for her portrayal of Shakespearean actress and abolitionist Fanny Kemble. Jeanne has performed on stage as Golda in Fiddler on the Roof at the New Theatre Restaurant, as Mrs. Cratchit in Kansas City Rep's A Christmas Carol, and as the villain in the feature film Bottleneck. Robin Hood is only one of many collaborations with her husband, playwright Ric Averill. Two others she is very proud of are children Will and Trish! The Averills live in Lawrence, Kansas, but love to travel and will "play" anywhere.
